We are pleased to invite you to an open reading group in the framework of our current exhibition The Black Fold by Rhea Dillon, organized by the Center for Experimental Lectures. Dillon's text proposes a poethical construction of Black feminist interiority, utilizing Gilles Deleuze’s concept of the 'fold,' to generate an original reading. Dillon reduces Leibniz's baroque materialism of pleats and manifolds to a single Black fold, serving as a site for imagining interiority and selfhood outside the framework and logic of Western subject.

The reading group will collectively explore unmoderated, non-hierarchical, and attentive modes of engaging with the texts, as well as the transformative potential inherent in group reading.

Next to Dillon’s essay “The Black Fold,” readings will also include excerpts from Gilles Deleuze's "The Fold: Leibniz and the Baroque," Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz's "The Principles of Philosophy known as Monadology," and Calvin L. Warren's "Ontological Terror: Blackness, Nihilism, and Emancipation."

The reading group will take place on Saturday, 13 January, 4:00-6:00 PM
The reading group will be held in English.
